Part of our training was the introduction of corporate chair massage and all that it implies. It was then we were told about David Palmer, his research, commitment and dedication to the world of chair massage. This style of massage intrigued me to no end. Mr. Palmers work over the years earned him the right to be named “The Father of Chair Massage”. I read and researched everything I could get my hands on regarding his work and chair massage in general.
There were a couple of reasons why I was so taken by chair massage now that I look back on it. One was the fact that the ratios of sexual oriented law suits against males performing table massage versus chair massage were not even in the same universe. At the time, law suits against males involving table massage were 83% (90% of these were false accounts, none the less giving men a bad name in the modern world of massage). Guess what the percentage was for law suits of any kind with chair massage, it was 0%. No brainer for me. Plus at first, my wife was having difficulty knowing that I would be massaging women in general let alone being alone with them half naked. She felt chair was just right for me too. Go figure. The main reason was the fact that it was something different. Nothing like this has ever been attempted where I live, at least to the magnitude I wanted to do it. I would be able to help my community by reducing stress and helping make their lives a little better, one massage at a time.
I am so very grateful to have started with chair massage. Since that time, my main focus is now is using The Lotus System™ for full body table massage. I still provide chair massage from time to time using The Lotus System TM but if it wasn’t for starting out with chair, I know none of this would have ever happened. I have a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for Mr. Palmer and his work. That also goes for all LMTs’ and CMTs’ that chose chair massage as their primary profession. We are indeed a special breed.
